Colour Trends for 2019

Colour trends are constantly changing when it comes to both exterior and interior design. What might have been on trend a year ago, may not be anymore. While building a home isn’t about following what is technically trendy, following the current colour trends, can be helpful in developing your colour palette and finding inspiration to make your decision easier.

Colour choices can be difficult. You have a lot to choose from when it comes to colour. Think of all the different rooms your house could hold that all require a colour choice, then you also have to choose the colours for your kitchen, bathroom and exterior. It’s a big job choosing your colour palette but don't stress, with Single Builders you have our Colour Consultant to guide you through the current trends to make the process that much easier.

Pantone’s Colour of the Year

Pantone’s colour of the year is PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral. Pantone describes this colour as ‘an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energises and enlivens with a softer edge.’ The concept of softer is really important in 2019, but we will get into that shortly.

Living Coral is described as a vibrant yet mellow warm colour and Pantone says it is one that takes away from the highly digitally connected world to encourage lighthearted activity. The beauty of this colour is that it is somewhat a statement colour, but it is soft enough that it isn’t too confronting. It fits right on in with the other trends of 2019 as well, which is another positive.

Coral in general does seem to be a strong contender for 2019, again on the more softer side of this colour. When you hear coral, you might think of very vibrant and bright colours, leaning sometimes on the orange side. But we aren’t speaking about those colours, this trend focuses much more on the softer side. Read on to find out more about softer colours in 2019.

Soft Colours

The main trend we are really seeing in 2019 is soft colours and soft pastels. Think soft grey, mint and terracotta, somewhat of a watered down 80s throwback. The softer pastel allows for the incorporation of colour into the kitchen and bathroom without being too overwhelming. This helps the interior to become more unique and individualised without having to go too over the top.

Soft colours are replacing dark statement walls. In 2019 less is more and these dark statement walls are out with monochromatic pastels standing in their place. This does also help with the longevity of your colour choices. Often dark statement walls can feel dated after a while, whereas choosing those lighter, more pastel-focused colours, can help keep you in style and are easier to match when changing the décor of the room. There is going to be a lot of soft colours showcased in 2019.

Wellness Movement

We will also see a lot of the outside coming in with soft wooden elements and calming green being incorporated into the interior of a lot of homes this year. Nature is a common theme for interior décor but in 2019 we will really see a shift to woodland-style nature influences. This equates to a lot softer colours and lighter earthy influences.

Wellness

This movement also centers around earthy and natural green tones. These colours match the overall wellness trend of society right now. We’re all about getting healthier and cleaner and these colours can really reflect that movement. These colours can promote a feeling of calm and can really freshen up spaces.

Colour trends are just an easy way to see what is currently loved and what will be seen most frequently over this coming year.
